I agree with this wholeheartedly! I am a working father. I care for my child each and every evening and all day Saturdays, part of Sunday as well. I put him to bed and get him up and dressed and off to daycare. My employer chastise's me for being 2 minutes late to work saying it is not fair to the rest of the employees. Although the rest of the employees don't carry company cell phone and are not accessible 24/7 as I am. You have to work 2yr before you're eligible for 2 weeks of paid time off. You don't get any additional sick leave. Needless to say I'm looking for another job but companies could retain valuable employees if they'd rank family as high as monetary profit.

Wow, unbelievable that child care costs are rising so much. $10K per year for part time toddle care is the norm in my community. One more reason I reformatted my life to include a full time job that still lets me be my children's primary care giver. If others are interested in finding out more about how to do this from the start, read www.PregnantEntrepreneur.com. Thanks for this article.

Congrats on getting to the home stretch with your book. I was able to get The Pregnant Entrepreneur (which would be the prequel to your book) published this year. I also stole moments from my family and lots of sleeping hours from myself for about two years to get the project done. But it was so worth it!

Sharing your story and wisdom is powerful for women today. You have experiences that will benefit other women, and only you can tell that story. I can't wait to hear more from you!

Thanks for your winsome description of your project and your selfless care for both mothers pressed by this economy and your daughters (now and years to come).

As you know, I have had the pleasure of reading your chapters; your passion and compassion come through on every page as well as real helps for your readers.

I look forward to that when you hold your finished book. You already have it placed with a trade book publisher, so that day will come in due course. Keep going!

Great advice in #1. It is amazing how many parents say they are bad at math to their children.

Good tips! I teach first grade and will share this advice with my students' parents. It's a great way for parents to get started and not feel overwhelmed.

For ideas and materials to help children build a strong sense of number, go to http://flipflopmath.com/ffgames.html There are 550 playing cards with a variety of quantitative values such as dot patterns, finger patterns, dominoes, tallies, five and ten frames, money, base ten blocks, etc. as well as numeral cards. A game booklet is included with directions for 7 different games using the playing cards as well as additional games to play on the game board. A two-sided Game Mat is included to play many of the games.
